Petition demands that independent UN human rights experts are allowed to meet 11th Panchen Lama Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and that his case is thoroughly investigated. Should any violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights be identified, we demand that the Panchen Lama is released. Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was born on 25 April 1989. In 1995, the Dalai Lama recognized him as 11th Panchen Lama. Three days later, on 17 May 1995, he was detained by the Chinese police and both he and his family have been kept at an unknown place ever since. The Panchen Lama is the second most important spiritual leader in Tibet
after the Dalai Lama.
The petition sheets will be handed over to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The appeal to discuss the case will be addressed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Czech Republic.
